TCP/IP

Internet protocol suite

The Internet protocol suite, commonly known as TCP/IP, is a framework of communication protocols used in the Internet and similar computer networks. It provides end-to-end data communication and is organized into four abstraction layers. It was funded by the US Department of Defense and is maintained by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). It predates the OSI model, which is a more comprehensive reference framework for general networking systems.
