Statistical inference

Statistical inference

Statistical inference is the process of using data analysis to make conclusions about a larger population based on a sample. It involves testing hypotheses and estimating properties of the population. This is different from descriptive statistics, which only focuses on the observed data without assuming it comes from a larger population. In machine learning, inference refers to making predictions using a trained model, while training or learning refers to inferring properties of the model.
