The binomial distribution is a discrete probability distribution of the number of successes in a sequence of independent experiments, each with its own Boolean-valued outcome. It is used to model the number of successes in a sample drawn with replacement from a population and is the basis for the binomial test of statistical significance. It can also be approximated when sampling without replacement if the population size is much larger than the sample size.
