Optics

Optics

Optics is the branch of physics that studies the behaviour and properties of light, including its interactions with matter and the construction of instruments that use or detect it. It usually describes visible, ultraviolet, and infrared light, which are all forms of electromagnetic radiation. Practical optics is done using simplified models such as geometric optics and physical optics, which includes wave effects like diffraction and interference. Quantum optics deals with the application of quantum mechanics to optical systems. Optics is relevant to many disciplines and has practical applications in everyday objects.
